4. Delays Due to Enhanced Screening
Earlier in 2025, the U.S. paused new student visa interview scheduling to introduce tougher background checks. Interviews have now resumed, but the process may take longer than before.

5. Extra Scrutiny for Certain Nationalities
Some students from specific countries, particularly in politically sensitive fields, may face more questioning or even visa denials. This is aimed at protecting national security.
6. Work Opportunities Under OPT Facing More Checks
Students using Optional Practical Training (OPT) to work after graduation, including STEM graduates, are facing increased checks on their employers. This comes after cases of payroll fraud by certain companies.

7. Travel Restrictions for Some Countries
As of mid-2025, there are new travel bans for certain nationalities. For some, this means they cannot apply for student visas at all; for others, restrictions only apply to certain visa categories.
